The peak winds at La Cumbre were recorded at 63 mph. The peak winds at La Vigia were recorded at 45 mph.

Michael, We have just begun to experience some 5-10 MPH wind down here in N/E San Diego County in the past few minutes. No rain yet, but our gutters are clear and rain barrels are at the ready! Another rare find: A "Golden Eagle Mark III" SSB Citizen's Band Receiver and Transmitter. This is the first one I have ever seen, and if you check on the "dreaded" E-Pay they are going for $400+. Tower work

La Cumbre Peak (3985') Tower work is not something we do often but when it is done there must be complete faith in your co-workers lest something go wrong. This past Friday we erected a 22' collinear antenna atop a 30 ft commercial tower at La Cumbre Peak. While not very high there are many things that can go wrong especially with winds at 15 and gusting to 20. Gin pole, clamps, brackets and lots of line can make for a safe installation. A 22 ft antenna means lots of torque and everything must be perfectly balanced. This can be an accident looking for a place to happen. We don't work with each other every day on towers so teaming means putting together the right people who have faith in each to perform without incident. SBARC's first great meeting of the year 2010

Greetings all SBARC members and guests! Tomorrow night, Friday, January 15, 2010, will be when we hold our first meeting of the New Year. We will have a new president who is excited to meet and greet every one of you. Al Soenke, WA6VNN, wants to hear your ideas of what kind of exciting things we as a club might do this year. Bring your thoughts, your good ideas, and let him hear from you. I have a couple of ideas myself. What do you think SBARC should do this year to head us in the direction of regaining that number one spot in the ARRL Southwestern Division? You do know that absolutely nothing is impossible. We did put a man on the moon, didn't we? What can SBARC do? Do you like our refreshment break during the meetings? Are you able to bring some goodies for the refreshment table? Cookies, donuts, cake, fresh fruit -- always a hit. Michael, W7HUT, will be bringing the hot Starbucks coffee. Can anyone bring some soft drinks? Come early, stay late. Put your hand out. Welcome some new hams to our wonderful hobby. Bring some junque for our 'Free to a Good Home' table. Take some home with you. As always, it will be my pleasure to greet as many of you as I can. If you are new to our club, we meet at the Goleta Union School District board room which is located at 401 N. Fairview Ave. in Goleta, directly across the street from the Goleta Library.
