SBARC Field Day Operators Needed

SBARC Members, Field Day is Saturday, June 23 to Sunday, June 24. The location is the Christ Lutheran Church field near the corner of Los Carneros and Covington Way. This is the same location that we had last year. It is just north of the Stow House parking lot. SBARC will have two HF stations located in the Communications Van and the Rover. One station will be primarily phone, the other will be primarily CW. Setup will be very easy since we use the club's vehicles. Setup will begin Friday afternoon at 1 PM. If you are interested in operating during Field Day, please indicate your mode (CW or phone) and first and second choice from the schedule below. Operators are scheduled in two hour shifts. Two or more operators during a shift is encouraged so that one person can log while another operates. Shifts are : Saturday 11 am - 1 pm 1 pm - 3 pm 3 pm - 5 pm 5 pm - 7 pm 7 pm - 9 pm 9 pm - 11 pm Night 11 pm - 5 am Sunday 5 am - 7 am 7 am - 9 am 9 am - 11 am The SSB Phone station will use a Yaesu Mark V in the Rover. We have worked on the Rover to permit 'silent' operation mode using battery power. The Mark V has a roofing filter and voice memory keyer to make it easier to operate. Everyone is invited to the Field Day Potluck BBQ at 3 pm Sunday. The club provides hamburgers, hot dogs, and soda. HF CODAR

5/13/2007 Most everyone in SBARC has probably seen the daily WebCam pictures from Diablo Peak on Santa Cruz Island. This program was initiated with the UCSB Geography Department in conjunction with their on-going weather studies in the central valley. http://www.diablo.sbarc.org/imageview.cgi This wireless link from Santa Cruz Island to the mainland has now attracted another task from the UCSB Physics Department. The <http://www.icess.ucsb.edu/iog/about/index.php>Interdisciplinary Oceanography Group (IOG) is affiliated with the <http://www.icess.ucsb.edu>Institute for Computational Earth System Science (ICESS) based at the <http://www.ucsb.edu>University of California (UCSB). Amateur Radio operators may be interested in this program as it involves HF in the 3-50 MHz band called HF Radar Coastal Ocean Dynamic Application Radar (CODAR). The participation by SBARC is now in its formative stages under Thorsten von Eicken, of SBARC and Cyril Johnson of UCSB. Subject: Memorial Service for Bob Lentz, AA6JG Hello friends of Bob Lentz, AA6JG, As you may have heard, our long time friend, Bob Lentz, passed away last week. Shirley tells me that there will be a memorial service held for him at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 3942 La Colina Rd. in Santa Barbara this Saturday, May 12 at 2:00 PM. Bob was active in the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club for many years. He particularly enjoyed public service communication events the club is active in. He was also a Volunteer Examineer for our testing sessions. Bob's health had been failing for the past couple of years. Please come and give your best regards to his lovely wife, Shirley, N6SMX, who was always by his side. 73, Darryl Widman, KF6DI
