SBARC- September 17, 2004 Meet "Mr. ICOM" Tokuzo Inoue - JA3FA By Sam Vigil WA6NGH On a recent business trip to Japan, Sam Vigil, WA6NGH, visited ICOM Headquarters in Osaka, Japan and interviewed Tokuzo Inoue, Founder and President of ICOM. He also visited and photographed one of ICOMs factories. The talk will also include a glimpse of Japans famous bullet trains and other high technology wonders. The full text of the CQ article that WA6NGH wrote on the interview is on the ICOM website: http://www.icom.co.jp/world/info/p-interview/ Sam Vigil, WA6NGH, was first licensed as a Novice in 1961. His first rig was a Knight-Kit Receiver and 50W CW transceiver. He joined the Navy Reserve in 1966 and served 3 years as a Cryptologic Technician Third Class and then 4 years active duty as a Cryptologic Officer in Washington, DC and Puerto Rico. He served an additional 22 years in the Naval Reserve and retired as a Commander in 1995. He spent much of his Naval Reserve career based at the Santa Barbara Reserve Center. He is active on 40 M SSB and 2M VHF. His rigs include a Collins KWM-1 and an ICOM 706 MKII. He is also interested in ARDF and was a participant in the 2004 US ARDF Championship. He has written nine ham radio articles for CQ, CQ VHF, QST, and World Radio magazines. In "real life" he is a Professor of Environmental Engineering at Cal Poly. He is also a member of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Search and Rescue Unit and is certified as an Emergency Medical Technician.

Hamfest Setup

Hi everyone, Tomorrow morning (Saturday) we will be meeting at the Elks grove (150 N. Kellogg Ave) to set things up for hamfest. We need to setup the canapies, put up tables, and do some cleaning. We should be done between 11:00 AM and noon. We will be meeting at 9:00AM, so if you can show up then, your help will be much appreciated. Thanks! Marvin, KE6HTS

Club News email newsletter sent by the ARRL ************* Dial "M" for Mentor Now when your club updates its information on the ARRL webpage you will have the option to designate your club as a Mentor club by checking the box in the services section of the information page. This is will allow new hams that are looking for mentors to see that your club is offering this service. If your club has a mentor or Elmer program please be sure to indicate this by updating your information by using these simple steps: * Locating your listing by first accessing http://www.arrl.org/field/club/clubsearch.phtml * Then click on your clubs highlighted name to get to its listing. * When your page appears, scroll down to the bottom where it says: * "Submit updated information for this club" After you've made your changes, * HIT the "submit" key and your update will be sent to us. After the submitted data is reviewed, updates are made and changes can be viewed on the web in a few days. We are revamping the Affiliated Club Search page that will allow users to search for clubs by services provided, such as Mentor, in addition to geographic location. This will be coming soon. Teen Ham Inspires Others A ham since age 8, a General at 10, and an Extra at 14, this dynamic YL has made many friends through ham radio. Sara Saeger, K3OOO, says that lots of young people like the challenges that ham radio has to offer and are proud of their achievements.
