I just came across this repeater mapping site today and thought road-tripping hams might like it:
http://k5ehx.net/
To find repeaters along a route, click on MENU in the top right and then click on the road icon (second from the left). Then input start and end points and click Draw Route and then Search.
Happy mapping!

Downed Power Line ---- Very important information !!!!
They left one thing out learned from the local fire department:
Do NOT step on the lines painted on the road. They use metal in the paint to make it reflective, and it can carry current a long way - several hundred yards.
Short version:
Do not drive over downed power lines
Assume all lines are hot
Stay in your car if possible
If exit required, DO NOT make a circuit of yourself by touching the car and the ground
Jump away and land on both feet.
Shuffle away in very short steps at least 35 ft.
This is very good information for all of us!!
Please watch and listen.
I learned quite a bit from this video.... I knew the
basics, but not the latter part .... Please watch it all
the way through ... Could save you.

Note: it is too late to order kits since I won't have time to get them
together for Saturday. But the hunt should be a lot of fun. We typically
go out to dinner (Golden Corral kind of across the street from
Schabarum) after all is done and the transmitters, etc have been pick up.

Weatherman says rain on Friday but clearing out for Saturday, so we're
still planning on our ARDF session at Schabarum Regional Park near
Rowland Heights. If you want to build a measuring-tape beam and/or
attenuator for two meters, you need to register with Marvin Johnston
KE6HTS (marvin(a)west.net) right away so he will have the kits there for
you. Otherwise, just come on out and enjoy the transmitter hunting,
including some easy two-meter transmitters set by Joe Moell K0OV and a
5-fox two-meter international-rules course of moderate-to-advanced
difficulty, set by Marvin. One or more fox transmitters on the 80-meter
band may also be set up to try.
If it takes place, the kit-building session will start at 9:30 AM.
Please be prompt. Beginner transmitters will be on the air at that
time. The main 5-fox hunt will start about 10:30 AM. Hunters may start
the courses at any time until 1 PM. Courses close at 3 PM.
The starting point for the full ARDF course will be in a remote part of
the park, so if you plan to take on that course, please arrive at the
gathering area before 10 AM so we can transport that group to the
starting point and do starts at five-minute intervals. Beginners will
start from the gathering area and will not need to be transported.
Trails are primitive in some areas of the park, so wear sturdy shoes.
All ages are welcome, but young children must be accompanied by an adult
at all times.
Schabarum Regional Park is on the south side of Colima Road, just east
of Azusa Avenue in Hacienda Heights. (Thomas Guide 678-G4) There is a
vehicular entry fee for the park, so carpooling would be a good idea.
Upon passing through the entry gate, drive south (straight ahead, don't
turn right) and continue to the end of the road (about 0.7 mile). Call
K0OV on 146.52 MHz simplex if you have trouble finding the gathering
area within the park.

Ludivico,
Did you get a response? If not, go to www.sbarc.org for Broadband Hamnet (aka Special Modes) and contact info. Brian Milburn, the President, can tell you about the plans they have for nodes in town.
Enjoy,Rod WB9KMO

Subject: [Sbarc-list] AREDN in Santa Barbara
Hi everybody,
I found the talk about AREDN very interesting, so I got permission from my landlord to install a node on my roof (downtown Santa Barbara) and just ordered an Ubiquity NSM2.
Does anybody else have a node in Santa Barbara? On what band?Is anybody planning to have one node on La Cumbre as well?
Thanks,LudovicoK6LUD
The class next week is for the Technician class license. There seems to
be interest in the General exam and we'll likely put on a General class
in May prior to the May VE session.
The VE exam on March 12 is a separate event from the classes, and
testing is available there for all classes of exam.

SBARC will be holding its regular Volunteer Examiner ham radio testing
session Saturday, March 12th. See link below.
I will be teaching a "cram course" for this test. There will be three
evening sessions from 7 to 9 PM on Wednesday through Friday, March 9
through 11 for those interested. Classes will be at Impulse Advanced
Communications, 6144 Calle Real, Goleta. This is upstairs from the Bay
Club gym, formerly Spectrum. The goal of the class is to enable you to
pass the test, not to make you FCC lawyers or electronic engineers.
Please complete the web form at the link below or let me know by email
if you are planning to attend. I will be putting together some support
material and sending it by email prior to the first class. There is no
charge for the classes, but there is a $15 fee for the exam payable when
you arrive for the test.
