Hey:
A fellow who did electronics all of his life just passed away, and family
is selling off all of his stuff.
He was not a ham, but worked in electronics about 35 years.
The sale is at 199 N. Kellogg, (almost) across from the Elk's Lodge,
starting at 09:00 Saturday.
There is test equipment, Midland radios, hand/power tools, tube caddies,
parts, dummy loads, tube tester, and many more items. A few of the things
can be seen at my website below.

And at the end of the sale, looking for some people and vehicles to take
all of the stuff that didn't sell...

Joe Corones, N6SAO, and Joe Laughlin, KE6PHB, put on an annual ARDF meet
down in San Diego this past weekend, and congratulations to Scott Moore,
KF6IKO (US ARDF Team member from Santa Barbara) for winning the event!
Here is a summary of the hunt:
May 23rd 2015 San Diego T-Hunt Group On-Foot T-Hunt Summary
It was a dark, foggy and stormy afternoon with visibility a hundred feet
or so and a nippy 40 degrees when Joe, KE6PHB and I, N6SZO pulled into
Mary, KJ6ZIW's cabin in the Laguna Mountains of San Diego county on
Friday afternoon May 22nd. We have used this cabin several times in the
past for Ham Radio related events but had never seen weather like this
before. We wanted to get up there early and possibly put out the 5
hidden T's on Friday afternoon instead of running around on Saturday
morning. Joe, KE6PHB, had finally reached the point on his new
"PHB-101" transmitter design so that we could put them out on Friday set
to come on at 10 AM Saturday but it was just too darn cold! We huddled
up in the cabin and checked all the other gear, practice T, back up
Pic-Con's, HT’s, borrowed sniffers, batteries, locks & cables, etc. The
cabin was finally warmed up with the space heater so we almost got a
good night’s sleep anticipating good weather in the morning.
Unfortunately, the weather forecast did not live up to its forecast and
it was still cold, wet and foggy. Luckily we could drive a loop and not
have to walk through miles of wet brush to set out the T’s. We spotted
the last T at 9:30 and headed back to the cabin to prepare for the
onslaught of hunters? With the weather this bad we were wondering what
we were doing here? Hunters started arriving and the first team went
out at 10:25 AM. The last team started at 1:55, just short of the 2:00
PM deadline we had set so we could start the BBQ around 3:30. The only
deviation we made during the day was to allow KJ6VOC and his 3 sons
Daniel, Aaron and David to take a break during the hunt for a “Dinner
Stop” as they were one T short at 3:30. After dinner they located the
5th T and checked back in.
RESULTS OF MAY 23rd. ON-FOOT T-HUNT
1 Hr. 34 minutes Scott Moore, KF6IKO Single Hunter from Santa
Barbara, came the Greatest distance Winner, 5 T’s.
1 Hr. 55 minutes The “Mickey Mouse” Team, Bill Elkerton, W6ZM,
Robin Elkerton, KC6LEA, Brian Elkerton, KI6DUR & Nicky? This was a
husband/wife, father/son & boyfriend/girlfriend team Winner, Kind of a
“Flash Hunt Mob”, 5 T’s.
2 Hr. 04 minutes Greg and Karen Spaulding, W6BAF & KG6FON,Husband
and wife team Winner, 5 T’s.
2 Hr. 55 minutes Mark Ording, K6KHO & son Trevor, father and 1 son
team Winner, 5 T’s
2 Hr. 58 minutes Dick Foran, WB6ZAM Single local hunter Winner,
5 T’s.
4 Hr. 03 minutes Tom, KJ6VOC Father & sons, Daniel, Aaron &
David, 3 sons team Winner.
1 Hr. 00 minutes Jim & Keela, non Hams but gave it a try Winners
…..2 T’s.
So we had a total of 18 people on site with 16 Hunters, not bad for an
“ALL WEATHER/ALL TERRANE T-HUNT”. BBQ was outside with most everyone
eating inside due to cold weather.
We look forward to seeing more folks out on next year’s hunt. It should
be at a lower elevation and much better weather. Thank You for the BBQ
Donations….. Every bit helps!

Every spring, hams in Orange County organize an outdoor day in the park
where they operate radios and find hidden transmitters. The annual
"Antennas-in-the-Park" (AITP) event is organized by the Fullerton Radio
Club. This year, AITP will take place at Hillcrest Park in Fullerton on
May 16.
All ages are welcome, so bring the family. AITP transmitter hunts are
suitable for beginners, but advanced hunters can treat them as a
"sprint." There will be no charge for participation in the hunts, which
will begin around 11 AM and continue until 2 PM. Be sure to bring your
two-meter handi-talkie and know how to program it to any frequency in
the two-meter band.
If you don't have the antenna/attenuator system for on-foot foxhunting
on two meters with your ham radio handi-talkie or scanner, a limited
amount of equipment will be available for loan. Better yet, you can
easily make your own during this session. Beginning at 10 AM, Marvin
Johnston KE6HTS will conduct a clinic for building his kits for
measuring-tape yagis and for 90 dB offset-type attenuators. An
assembled/tested attenuator in a special housing that goes inside the
boom of the yagi is also available. If you want one or more kits,
please register in advance by sending e-mail to marvin(a)west.net, so he
will have the kits reserved in your name waiting for you.
At least one optional 80m transmitter will be on the air for you to try.
Besides the transmitter hunts, AITP participants will probably have at
least one HF station on the air. The traditional Worldwide Foxhunting
Weekend cake will be served to participants in the transmitter hunts. A
few canopies and tables will be set up, but for eating and sitting
around, please bring your own lawn chair.
Hillcrest Park in Fullerton is bounded on the west by Harbor Boulevard,
on the north by Brea Boulevard, on the east by Lemon Street and on the
south by Valley View Drive. From the 91 Freeway, take the Harbor
Boulevard exit and go north about 1.8 miles to Valley View Drive.
The hunt will begin in the Lower Picnic Area. Park in the lot north of
Valley View, midway between Harbor and Lemon. (Map at www.homingin.com)
Look for the orange and white orienteering flag at the entrance to the
parking lot. Walk north through the playground into the lower picnic area.
Talk-in is on K6QEH/R, 146.97(-) PL 136.5. Send inquiries to
homingin(a)aol.com.

Hi everybody,
This Saturday I visited the SBARC Club Station and our Shackmaster, Dave, K6HWN, had his recently presented plaque on display for all to see. It is indeed a very handsome piece. Upon close look you could see that the etching/engraving was done from the rear side of it and is dimensionally cut into the material. The reason I mention this is because of an idea I had when looking closely at it. The idea was to shine my flashlight up through the base of it and hope that the engraved message would light up, which indeed it did! The folks present could see all the writing light up. Since Saturday, I had another thought. That was to build a wooden base to hold the plaque and permanently embed some white LEDs in that wooden base so that when powered up they would cast a lovely white light up inside the plaque and display the message. The wooden base would ensure that the position of the plaque was proper and would not slide out of optimum position and would keep those LEDs in their proper place as well.
Are you ready for the fun part? Is there anyone there who loves working with wood and would like to make the base for the Shackmaster's plaque? A bit of elementary wiring would be necessary. I can supply the LEDs, the wall wart, the AC cord, the switch, etc. The nice piece of wood and some skill would be necessary. Please get in touch with me if you would like to help with this little project for our Shackmaster, Dave, K6HWN.

Members and BoD Recognize “Shackmaster”
By Levi K6LCM | April 25, 2015 - 7:00 pm | Club News, Featured
The award presented to K6HWN on April 25 recognizes him as “The Voice of K6TZ.”
At 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 25 2015, a group of SBARC members, including the club president and BoD members, gathered at the American Red Cross building at State and Alamar in Santa Barbara to present an official citation in recognition of the tremendous efforts put forth by Dave – K6HWN in his role as the official “Shackmaster” at the K6TZ Club Station and the coordinator of many of the SBARC on-air nets.
First licensed years ago, Dave returned to the hobby in the mid-2000s when he began operating on 2-meters from his boat in Santa Barbara Harbor. He quickly made friends on the K6TZ repeater and found a second home on the air with Santa Barbara-area hams. Shortly thereafter, Dave committed to opening access to the nearly forgotten SBARC Club Station in the Red Cross basement by creating open station hours where he could host members and guests and train them on the operation of the station’s many HF, VHF and UHF radios. It is through this mentoring that many new hams have gotten on the air for the first time. Quite a few seasoned hams have returned to the hobby and the club also as a result of the Shackmaster’s efforts to provide a nexus for activity around the K6TZ repeaters and Club Station.
Over the years, Dave has also taken on the duties of recruiting net control operators for many of the club-sponsored nets and hosts the “Technical Mentoring and Elmering Net” himself on Thursday evenings. Even casual listeners to the K6TZ 146.79 repeater will certainly recognize Dave's voice from “K6HWN Announcements” his trademark periodic bulletin, which he reads throughout the day on the repeater and collects for posting on the club Web site and at k6hwn.org.
The plaque, presented by SBARC board member Brian – K6BPM reads:
With sincere appreciation to Dave – K6HWN “SHACKMASTER” for your years of dedication, mentorship, friendliness and being “The Voice of K6TZ” Presented in 2015 by the Board of Directors and the members of the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club.
“Its really hard to believe this,” said Dave upon receiving the award. “Many individuals have expressed (their appreciation) to me but never as a group; this is a ‘wow!'”
