Hello SBARC Members and Friends,
My landlord’s kids moved back home so I need to move out to make room (it was a great run while it lasted). I have until 11/30 to get into a new place.
A room, duplex or house will work, but I need permission to put up a small tower and antennas. Rent is quite flexible.
Of course, the location at antenna level must be line of site to the ATV Repeater on Gibraltar Road. The area between Hwy 154 and Alamar (like San Roque/Samarkand) is preferred, but several other locations would work out well, too.
Let me know as soon as possible if you hear of something that might work for me.
Regards,
Rod Fritz, WB9KMO

The new USFS 100 ft tower for Santa Ynez Peak has now arrived. The
semi arrived yesterday and parked at 101 and Refugio Road. The load
had to be transferred to a shorter truck to make it to SYP. A crane
will arrive today and lift the components into place. The tower
erection will be finished in three working days. Due to limited
logistics the present ARES antennas will not be reused. All new coax,
connectors, and antennas will be installed. Complete cut-over should
be expected within the next few weeks. We shall be working with the
tower crew until the task is done.

PETER 1 ISLAND DXPEDITION 3Y0X
ANTARCTICA 2006
Considered by some to be the DXpedition of the Decade, this adventure will bring the danger and excitement right into our club meeting room. You will see the helicopter flights, hear the howling storms and that nasty, incessant wind and you will struggle along with the team as they erect their antennas and shelters.
You will hear the huge pileups as they sound from the bottom of the world and at the bottom of the sunspot cycle!
You will see the daring rescue of a team member and 3 ship's crewmen as they remove the last of their gear from the island when it's time to leave. This is an hour-long drama you won't want to miss. Share the lives of the 22 brave men who planned for years for this special event.
It was John Wayne who said, "Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway."
Bring your popcorn!
The SBARC club meeting is this Friday, October 21, at 7:30 PM at the Goleta Union School District, 401 North Fairview Ave. in Goleta.

This week after a few false starts and cancellations the team of
W1UUQ, W6AMS, and KD6VEX got to Diablo Peak on a space available
basis for one day. Contractor for this project was AllTech who
removed >20,000 lbs of batteries, racks and electronics equipment
using both the 206 and 212 helicopters from Aspen Helicopters. New
batteries were delivered to the site by helicopter from Prisoners
Harbor. The 212 helicopter lifts were from a 100 ft sling. Some loads
exceeded 1000 lbs. The winds picked up requiring some tricky
approaches. In one lift as the helicopter lifted off the load got
caught in the wind and slammed into the K6TZ rigging pulling the
concrete based tower out of the ground. There was some damage to the
antennas which can be fixed. A come-along was used to bring the tower
back into alignment. None of the new batteries are for K6TZ.
