Hey all,
If any of you are going to the Palm Springs Hamfest this coming Saturday, IMHO it is a good opportunity to see the Palm Springs Air Museum afterward, which you pass on the Gene Autry Trail on the way to the Hamfest.
You can check out their website at www.palmspringsairmuseum.org . There are often special programs on Saturdays. Listed for January 29 is the "100th Bomb Group". There will be some sort of presentation on it starting at 1:00--probably a speaker but I'm not sure. There will surely be more info on it on their Facebook page, linked on their website, later in the week.
You might want to take a tour afterward, likely led by a grizzled veteran WWII pilot with gripping stories to tell.
I speak only from the experience of going to both last year and it made for a very memorable and fun day!
Dave K6VML
I hope you all can enjoy this huge rocket launch, scheduled today for
1:08pm. I hope to capture some video from the ground in Santa Barbara. If
I do, I'll probably put it on ATV next Tuesday night at 8:30pm, streamed at

LAUNCH ON SCHEDULE
Today's first-ever launch of a Delta IV Heavy booster from Vandenberg
Air Force Base appears to be on schedule. The Delta is slated to
lift-off from Space Launch Complex 6 (SLC-6) at south Vandenberg at
1:08 p.m.
Following liftoff, the rocket will rise vertically for several
seconds. It will then slowly pitch over and probably head southward
over the ocean.
Plans call for the rocket to deliver a classified payload into orbit
for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office.
Late yesterday afternoon the United Launch Alliance, the launch
services provider, issued the following launch update:
" ... it was a quiet day of launch processing at SLC-6 today so we are
a "GO" for tomorrow. The weather forecast is still 90 percent
acceptable for launch.
... High pressure dominates California bringing fair weather and
warmer temperatures. Winds for MST roll will be out of the east 12-18
gusting to 25 kts. Winds at SLC-6 at T-0 will be out of the northwest
at 10-15 kts. Upper-level winds will max out at 60 kts at 40,000 ft
from the north. There are no predicted space weather events for T-0."

Greeting to all,
TRW SWAPMEET & PALM SPRINGS HAMFEST - Saturday 1/29 at about 6am (not
tomorrow, but the following Saturday) , I'll be driving to the TRW Swapmeet
and possibly on to the Palm Springs Hamfest. I can carry several people in
my van, so let me know if you'd like to drive along. The agenda (whether or
not to go to the Hamfest or other stops along the way) and the time to
return will be determined by those who want to go.
ATV REPEATER WORKGROUP - Sunday, 1/30 from 2pm to about 6pm, I'll be taking
a crew of volunteers to the KTYD transmitter site on Gibraltar Road to work
on the ATV Repeater. There are several things to do for all skill levels.
We'll move a rack, install coax and antennas, relocate cameras, make
adjustments and set up a computer with Ham WiFi links. You can help make
the repeater work better, learn in the process and get a guided tour of the
facilities.
If you want to participate in either of these activities or just have
questions about what we're doing, send me an email at wb9kmo(a)sbarc.org.
Join in the fun,

From: Bill Talanian, W1UUQ, Trustee K6TZ
Subject: SBARC W6R operations
SBARC has authorization to operate W6R as a Special Event station
from 4 -thru- 7 Feb. There are open periods when you may be able to
operate W6R from your home or mobile station. If you have a desire to
operate individually as W6R then book your operation with the Trustee.
Operational guidelines for individual mobile or fixed operation as
W6R under your amateur radio license are as follows:
1. You must be an SBARC member.
2. Operational periods will be coordinated and booked through the
Trustee at 805-964-7432.
3. Operations will be limited to your individual license class level.
4. No simultaneous operations will be permitted (more than one
station at any period).
5. An accurate log must be kept and turned into the Trustee for QSL
card service (SASE only).
Remember to check-in at the Club web site often as Michael Reynolds,
NO6O, will be posting the latest information as it becomes available.
All booked operational periods will be posted on the Club web site
<www.sbarc.org> and other amateur radio outlets. Keep in mind that
N6R will be operational as the "Reagan Library" at Simi Valley while
W6R will be operational as the "Reagan Ranch" (Rancho del Cielo).
Please remember this is not a contest so take the time to accommodate
as many stations as you can by explaining what the event is about and
the venues. Maybe even become acquainted with the 40th President by
reading Wikipedia and life at Rancho del Cielo
<http://www.yaf.org/ranchodelcielo.aspx>.
Lastly, this is the first time this Club has participated in a wide
scale special event of this type. Have fun and become part of history
on this centennial event.
