A very happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Michael! Propagation was crummy this morning, so all WB6OBB heard was me tripping the repeater, I'm afraid!
So, here's to better propagation and a happy holiday season to us all!

Hi everyone,
13 years ago, an incident took place where a boat anchored at Santa Cruz
Island, got the anchor line tangled in the prop, and drifted out into
the sea lanes. It still makes a great read, and made for a very Happy
Thanksgiving for one family.

Thanks to Scott, KF6EDD, for finding it again!

Walt Haake, K6YJE, was my cousin. Come to Walt's memorial service this Saturday and I will let everyone know how that happened. The service will begin at 12:30 PM at the San Roque Catholic Church located at 3200 Calle Cedro at the intersection of Argonne Circle in Santa Barbara. You old-timers will remember that Walt was a president of the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club and taught Amateur Extra classes. He headed up our Bazaar for several years. Walt hadn't an enemy in the world. Everyone liked Walt.
Let's fill up the church with Walt's friends and show the fraternity of Amateur Radio.

Hello SBARC Members: (Sorry, sent incomplete version accidentally)
I was saddened to read the obituary of Walter Haake, W6YJE, in todays S.B.
News-Press.
He passed away on 21 November 2009, one month short of his 88th birthday.
Probably none of you newer/younger hams had ever met Walter, but he was a
mainstay of the radio club in years gone by. For many years, he was in
charge of the SBARC Bazaar which back then was held in the auditorium near
Cathedral Oaks and Route 154.
He priced everything himself, and I finally complained to him that the
fixed price items would never sell at his prices. His explanation was that he
wanted to buy them all himself, so he inflated the prices for that purpose.
He was a man of character, and would never "steal stuff off of the top" for
his own personal use.
The storage units he built at his house were legendary, and the amount of
electronic "junque" he accumulated over the years was almost unbelievable.
His back yard was a steep hill, and he had storage units that looked like
battlefield bunkers recessed into the hillside. He tended to collect things
for future projects, but I never figured out what he was going to do with 4
WW-II BC-610 plate transformers......
For you younger hams, the BC-610 was a 500 watt AM transmitter that used a
2,500 Vdc transformer that probably weighed about 75 pounds. Walt wouldn't
let us help him move them, he did it himself by lifting the xformer about
1/2" off of the ground and taking one side-step at a time.
I have only reminisced about one small portion of his activities, I'm sure
that you other old timers also have fond memories of Walter.
So goodbye old friend...........

This Friday night, November 20, is an especially important meeting that I would urge all SBARC members to attend. It is our last club meeting of the year so let's make it a great one.
First - it is our annual SIG Night - where each Special Interest Group will have a representative present to answer questions and whet your appetite for this and that
form of activity, from ARES to DX to ARDF and even ATV and Satellites - something for every interest in Ham radio! This is a great chance for you to bring and show off your favorite piece of equipment from your shack. Please label it with your Name, Call and How you use it.
Second - it's election night for the SBARC Officers and Directors for 2010.
You may vote for the proposed slate below, or put forth your own candidates or run yourself!
But definitely be there for a lot of fun and our own small slice of participatory democracy.
Please bring some form of refreshments for the dessert table.
