SBARC Members,
Just a final reminder that this weekend is Field Day. The location is in
Goleta, just north of the Stow House at Los Carneros and Covington Way.
Everyone is invited to Field Day. You are welcome to come by and observe
the fun. Setup will begin Friday afternoon at 1 PM. This year we will not
set up any heavy towers. We will use both of the club's communication
vehicles for Field Day stations. Most of Friday afternoon will be spent
making casual contacts on HF. If you or a friend is interested in making an
HF contact, we will have licensed control operators ready to assist.
Field Day will start at 11 AM Saturday morning and run to 11 AM Sunday.
Since the location is very visible to the public, I hope that we can get
lots of members to answer questions and assist our membership chair, Ingrid
Steele.
Please note that the time for the Sunday BBQ has changed to Sunday Noon.
The location is the George Adams Picnic Grove located south of the Goleta
Depot. All SBARC members and guests are invited. The club will provide
drinks and burgers. Please bring a salad or dessert to share.
The tentative operator schedule is below. Please let me know if there are
any corrections to this list. We still have a few openings that we need to
fill.

Field Day is Friday, June 23 to Sunday, June 25. The location is in Goleta,
near the Stow House and Goleta Depot. To get there, take 101 and exit Los
Carneros North. The Field Day site is just ½ mile north of 101 (Los
Carneros and Covington Way). We will setup Friday afternoon beginning at 1
PM. Operation will start Saturday morning at 11 and end Sunday morning at
11.
The club will run a 2A club station using the communications van and the
rover vehicles. Field Day setup will be very easy this year. We will use
the antenna masts on each of these vehicles.
We still need a few more operators for this event. This location is very
visible to the public. We also need members to greet visitors. Please
reply to this email if you are available for either of these positions.
We are planning a BBQ picnic for Sunday, June 25 at 4 PM. All club members
and guests are invited to this picnic and to visit our Field Day operation.
A no-host dinner meeting will be held Tuesday, June 20, 6:30 PM, at the
Turnpike IHOP to discuss this event.

This from U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer on June 8, 2006
Darryl Widman, KF6DI
Santa Barbara, CA
Dear Mr. Widman:
Thank you for contacting me regarding broadband over power lines (BPL),
which is the transmittal of broadband signals over electric power lines.
I appreciate hearing from you on this issue.
President Bush has expressed his support for BPL as a viable method for
increasing broadband access throughout the United States . However, there
is concern that BPL interferes with the electromagnetic spectrum and
disrupts radio communication, including emergency communications.
As you may know, Congress is currently considering broad
telecommunications reform legislation. In the House of Representatives,
one major bill (H.R.5252) contains a provision that would require the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to conduct a study of the
potential effects of BPL on radio communications.
The major bill before the Senate (S.2686) contains no such provision.
However, the Senate Commerce Committee, of which I am a member, will hold
a hearing on S.2686 on June 13, 2006; it is possible that BPL issues will
be considered at this time.
Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind as legislation on
this issue progresses.
Again, thank you for writing to me. Please do not hesitate to contact me
again about this or any other issue of concern to you.

Take a peek into WB9KMO Video on the Internet...
In case you haven't tried the following "webcam" websites lately, you may
want to take a peek. They are more reliable and more active now. Each
webcam has a chat room attached for real-time interactive communication.
I'm not always in the chat room in spite of being listed there - my
connection is required by camstreams.com to keep the webcam active. Right
now, only three users can see video at a time (I'm trying to allow more),
but all can use the chat room. If you don't get video when you connect,
click the refresh button on your browser or try again later. Send questions
and comments to HYPERLINK "mailto:wb9kmo@sbarc.org"wb9kmo(a)sbarc.org.
WB9KMO ATV Repeater - HYPERLINK
"http://wb9kmo.camstreams.com"http://wb9kmo.camstreams.com - This is the
output of the WB9KMO ATV Repeater in Santa Barbara, CA. Amateur Television
Network (ATN) video is shown live from several ATV repeaters in Nevada and
Southern California. Audio is mixed in from other local ham repeaters on
145.75 (simplex SSTV), 146.79 and 224.86 MHz. The stream is active 24x7
with live audio and video and a slideshow during idle times. You're most
likely to see live activity on weekends and evenings, especially Sunday
morning and Tuesday evening (USA, Pacific Time).
WB9KMO Ham Radio Video Library - HYPERLINK
"http://kmovideo.camstreams.com"http://kmovideo.camstreams.com - This is a
continuous loop of several ham radio-related video recordings. Please
contribute your ham radio video so it can be included in the loop (HYPERLINK
"mailto:wb9kmo@sbarc.org"wb9kmo(a)sbarc.org). The current clips are Monroe
School ISS Contact (15 minutes), DARPA Grand Challenge - Ghostrider (5
minutes), DARPA Grand Challenge - Stanley Wins! (5 minutes), JOTA - Jamboree
On The Air (15 minutes) and SBARC Tesla Presentation (50 minutes) - times
are approximate.
WB9KMO Webcam - HYPERLINK
"http://kmocam.camstreams.com"http://kmocam.camstreams.com - This is a live
webcam in my ham shack. If I'm there, say hi to me in the chat room. If I
notice you're there, I'll be happy to chat with you. You're most likely to
see me on Tuesday nights. Most of the time there's not much going on, but
check it out anyway - Rodney the Robot is in the lower left corner waving
hello.
WB9KMO Mobile Webcam - HYPERLINK
"http://kmomobile.camstreams.com"http://kmomobile.camstreams.com - This is
still in development and it isn't on very much of the time yet. It's a
webcam I take with me when I'm away from home. I'll try to make it active
as much as I can, as long as I have Internet access so I can send the video
stream. Sending a stream from hotels is sometimes possible (firewalls -
yuck!), but I hope to also send from my van to cover local events.
Eventually, I'll probably show clips of prior travels when I'm not
transmitting live. Take a look from time to time, but be patient with this
one.
I hope you enjoy a peek into WB9KMO Video on the Internet. If you're
inclined, I encourage you to put your own webcam on the Internet. The
website I use, HYPERLINK
"http://www..camstreams.com"http://www..camstreams.com, makes it pretty easy
and it's free!

Rod WB9KMO
