Hi everyone,
Just a reminder that we will again be having breakfast this Saturday,
July 2, starting at 8:00AM at Cody's Restaurant. Dennis and JoAnn
Schwendtner will again be hosting the breakfast. If you are planning on
attending, please let Dennis know (dennis(a)rain.org) so we can make sure
to have enough seating.
See you there!
Marvin, KE6HTS
The last in a series of local events leading up to the USA ARDF
Championships
takes place on July 16 at Mt. Pinos in the Los Padres National Forest.
It is
open to anyone of any age, with or without a ham radio license.
This ARDF course will be "advanced" level, about the same length as
typical
national championship courses, with five two-meter transmitters.
Although it
is intended as training for experienced radio-orienteers, it can be
completed
by newcomers who are capable of walking or running at high elevation for
at
least 5 kilometers. There will not be any short-range "beginner"
transmitters,
nor any 80-meter transmitters. Course-setter Marvin Johnston KE6HTS
will be on
hand to teach the basic techniques of on-foot direction-finding.
Mount Pinos terrain is mostly runable forest. The air is clear, and
there is
no poison oak. Be sure to bring your own water. Scoring will be
electronic.
If you have an "e-stick," be sure to bring it. There will be a $5 per
person
charge for the use of Los Angeles Orineteering Club's equipment.
Please be on time for this event. The radio-O group will meet at the
McGill
Campground day-use parking lot at 10:30 and carpool to the starting
point at
or near the Nordic Center (8300' elevation) three miles beyond the
campground.
We'll try to monitor 146.52 MHz simplex for ham operators, but may not
be
able to hear you if you're not close by.
Directions: Take Frazier Park exit and go west on Frazier Mountain Park
Road.
Continue 8 miles, passing Frazier Park and Lockwood Valley Road (which
is
your last chance for supplies and water). Four miles beyond the
Lockwood Valley
turnoff, stay left at the fork onto Mt Pinos Road. (If you reach Pine
Mountain Club, turn around.) Go another five climbing, winding, miles
to McGill
Camp on your right. As you enter the campground, the day parking lot is
on your
right just before the road goes out to the campsites.
Overnight camping is available for $12 per campsite on a
first-come-first-served basis at McGill Campground. The campground is
dry, so bring your own
water.
As of June 2005, USFS Adventure Passes are no longer required at Mt.
Pinos in
the summer months.

Hello SBARC members,
After being appointed as the fill-in SBARC Treasurer, I realized that I
would need help with the Bazaar and the Hamfest. The help in I need is
in terms of cashiers for both events.
The Bazaar is a rather short event lasting just a part of a morning and
so I don't think we could need to worry about setting up shifts for this
event.
The Hamfest can go longer and thinking about "shifts" of cashiers might
be in order.
So, I any of you would be willing to help out, please get in touch with
me at Tel: 560-0605 or Email: wa6mbz(a)sbarc.org.
Thanks.

Hi everyone,
Just a reminder that we will be having a hamburger picnic at 5:00PM
after the Field Day site is cleaned up and everything taken down. It
will be held at Escondido Park and will cost about $3 - $4 each for
hamburgers, potato salad, chips, and drinks. If you plan on attending,
please let Dennis (dennis(a)rain.org) or myself know by 3:45 today
(Sunday.) We have enough food for about 15 people and need to pick up
more supplies if there will be more people than that. You don't need to
have worked Field Day to attend.
Thanks!
Marvin, KE6HTS
I wonder if they invert the dot and dashes down their and what
kind of translation routine would we need to work them ???

Of note, the Tonight Show piece was a copycat of a similar event
in Australia written up a month earlier. Morse won down under, too.

SBARC Members,
We still need operators for Field Day. We also need help setting up and taking down.
Setup is Friday, June 24, starting at 11 am.
Field Day operation starts Saturday morning at 11 am and runs to Sunday morning at 11.
The location is Elings Park. Please note that we are located at the east part of Elings, near the hang gliders. This location is accessible from Cliff Drive or Flora Vista to Calle Montilla.
We would like to have a bbq / potluck on Sunday at 5 PM. Since we can't cook in Elings, we will hold it next to Elings at Escondido Park (take Cliff Drive to Flora Vista).
Please indicate your availability for Field Day and let me know if you will attend the bbq.

Tom Saunders N6YX
