Hello SBARC Members,
It is that time again for you regular contributors to Key-Klix! It just
so happens that it is that time for the rest of us as well! Monday the
29th of September (this coming Monday) is the deadline for submissions
for the October Key-Klix. I will be going out of state shortly after
Key-Klix is sent to the printers and I have lots of things to do to get
ready - things that I cannot do too far in advance! So - early
submissions will be greatly appreciated and late ones will have to wait
for the November issue.
Thanks for all your help in the past, present and future.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
EarthLink delay to ARRL E-Mail Forwarding Service addressees continues
EarthLink, the Internet Service Provider continues to delay messages
sent
via the ARRL E-Mail Forwarding Service (@arrl.net) to @earthlink.net
e-mail addresses. As a result of EarthLink's actions, ARRL cannot
guarantee timely delivery of messages forwarded via the ARRL E-Mail
Forwarding Service to our members' EarthLink e-mail addresses.
At the root of the issue is EarthLink's contention that the @arrl.net
domain is a spam source based on their internal standards and analysis.
While EarthLink appreciates the concept of a simple e-mail forwarding
system like arrl.net and concedes that the spam is not originating from
the ARRL E-Mail Forwarding System, it maintains its position that
blocking all messages--including valid e-mail--from this domain is an
effective tactic in their efforts to fight spam on the Internet.
EarthLink has told ARRL that it will continue to delay messages until
the
amount of spam being sent through this system is reduced to a level
EarthLink deems acceptable. For now, the situation is at an impasse.
ARRL understands and appreciates the inconvenience this represents to
our
members. Other large national ISPs have dealt with this specific issue
in
a much more reasonable fashion, and those major ISPs, as well as
hundreds
of other smaller ones, accept e-mail via the ARRL E-Mail Forwarding
Service.
ARRL advises affected members to consider changing the ISP to which
their
ARRL E-Mail Forwarding System e-mail is forwarded. ARRL members logged
onto the ARRL Web site can make necessary changes through their Member
Data page (click on "Modify membership data").
Note that it may take up to 24 hours for changes in your e-mail address
to take effect. Affected members also may consider contacting EarthLink
abuse(a)abuse.earthlink.net on their own. ARRL apologizes for any
inconvenience and will continue its efforts to resolve this situation
with EarthLink.

Yes, the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club and the Santa Barbara ARES
District have made national news!
Read all about it in the October issue of CQ magazine in an article
(page 68) authored by Gordon West, WB6NOA, titled "Personal Locator
Beacons New challenge for Ham 'Fox Hunters.""
The article prominently mentions the SBARC ELT monitoring system and the
work of the local ARES groups in assisting the Santa Barbara Search &
Rescue Team in ELT search. I assisted Gordon by contributing information
and photos about our program, which may become the model for Amateur
assistance in this field for the rest of the U.S. I am pleased he used
much of the material in his comprehensive article. Every member of SBARC
and ARES should be proud to be on the "cutting edge" of this public
service work and to be featured in a widely-read national publication.

Hi everyone,
I just got a call from Brent, and while there is no problem with the
meeting, he won't be able to make it for dinner. We can still plan on
having dinner out there; just let me know if you will be coming for
dinner. Thanks!
Marvin, KE6HTS
Hi everyone,
Tomorrow will be the September SBARC Meeting, and our speaker will be
Brent Roberts. Brent is the project manager for the reconstruction
efforts for the Port San Luis Lighthouse. If you are interested in
seeing a bit more about the lighthouse before the meeting, take a look
at:
http://www.pointsanluislighthouse.org/
As is our custom, we will be taking Brent out to dinner before the
meeting and everyone is welcome. However, if you are planning on being
there for dinner with us, please let me know so I can let the restaurant
know how many people to expect. Dinner will be at 5:30 pm at Cody's
restaurant located in the shopping center at the corner of Hollister Ave
and Turnpike Rd.
