I happened to be in an aircraft at the time and got a shot of the waves behind it.  It was quite a sight!

These images taken from Santa Barbara Mesa show the launch sequence including separation of the first stage which then landed back at Vandenberg Air Force Base.  It appeared as if a gaseous cloud from deep space was suddenly transported to fill a quarter of the night sky

At one point after the separation of the first stage, there was a ripple effect that almost made it look like you were seeing a visual representation of radio waves coming off of the rocket.  See cropped image.  I’m not sure what caused that effect but it was interesting to see.
