Folks:
Let me weigh in on this as it appears my simple message has been
misconstrued and may have been taken as offensive. The
ListServer is for communications between members and a common
interest. There are 10 government holidays. Three of them are
Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day. There is
absolutely nothing political in recognition of our common
heritage but a patriotic reminder of those in SBARC who have
given their life for our freedom. I know each and everyone who
have long been forgotten. Would one be so offended if I were to
post an American Flag and say, Have a Happy Fourth. I would hope
not.
At every SBARC general meeting in a public building we all stand
and Pledge Allegiance to the Flag. Everyone stands and it is
common to place ones hand over their heart. Even non-citizens
stand in this observance in recognition of our sovereignty. I am
accorded the option of rendering a hand salute as a veteran.
There is nothing political here to offend anyone.
If one is so offended by a simple patriotic posting on the
ListServer then the power is in their hands to use the delete
button.
Sincerely,
Bill Talanian, USMC (ret)
