Hi Warren- Thank you for that positive email!
I’m confident everything will go smoothly with little or no issues. I wasn’t aware that the first SBARC Field Day was located at the same spot- that’s  cool!
By any chance do you know when that occurred?

Hi Theo,

Thanks for your message.  I’m glad to know that you plan to participate in Field Day 2024!  I spoke with a few fellows at the Santa Barbara DX gathering a few days ago.  One of them recalled that SBARC’s first Field Day was held at Chase Palm Field!

To your question on FRI, I am encouraged based on the operating results of our Field Day practice at Chase Palm Field earlier this week (S0 noise floor, many S9 signals on the upper bands).  As for transient presence at the site, Santa Barbara Parks & Recreation encouraged us to choose Chase Palm Field which is located Oceanside and less visited by transient people, rather than Chase Palm Meadow, which apparently is routinely used by unhorsed people at night.  We will have a significant presence the Saturday night of Field Day and so I do not expect incidents.

Finally, and importantly, we sent some photos and a write-up on the practice session via the new SBARC Field Day email distribution list.  If you did not receive the invitation to “Opt-In” to the Field Day email distribution list, please reply to me either at wwmyers@me.com or to fieldday@sbarc.org.

In all the years I lived in SB, I unfortunately never considered Chase Palm Field as a potential site for Field Day. Depending on what we find on unknown local EMF  interference and elevation, it may be a long term site that provides everything mentioned (or most).
The only attribute that made me question was the overnight issues. There is a lot of mentally ill  in that area.  That’s common knowledge.
during my wife and I experience of summer concerts in that park, there’s been a significant issue of wandering homeless.
Not sure if that’s the visibility to the general public we are looking for..(jk)   but I’m down with giving it my June 20 best👍. Count me in.

Dear SBARC Members and Friends,

I am writing with an update on our plans for Field Day 2024.

The SBARC Field Day team has secured permission from City of Santa Barbara Parks & Recreation to hold our Field Day activities at Chase Palm Field in Santa Barbara. This site offers many advantages over others considered including overnight use, favorable radio operation conditions, accessibility to all of our members, and visibility to the general public.

Please take a few minutes to review the details of our Field Day plans at the SBARC website, here:

If you have questions or suggestions about Field Day 2024 feel free to send an email to the team at fieldday@sbarc.org
