The funeral for our good friend Norm Salzman, KA6UHP, will be this Monday morning, July 15, at 11:00 AM at the Santa Barbara Cemetery. It would be very nice if members of the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club would show up in numbers to extend our condolences to the family and to honor Norm's memory.

Norm Salzman, as many of you know, was a true human being. He was always joyful and helpful. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I met Norm in 1968 when I purchased a cash register from him for my business. He had a small store on Haley Street in Santa Barbara at the time and sold office machines there and, I believe, serviced them as well.

You may know that Norm was an active member of the Coast Guard Reserve and kept a keen eye on happenings in our harbor. His radio direction finding equipment was always working so he could pinpoint a vessel when needed. He taught many classes in electronics to boaters and that gave him great pleasure. Norm was a member of the Santa Barbara Yacht Club for many years and kept his boat in our harbor. For about as long as Norm had his Amateur Radio license, he was an active member of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service here in Santa Barbara and participated in nearly all of its activities.

For Norm's funeral, take the turnoff from Cabrillo Blvd. to the entrance of the cemetery, entering the first gate you come to on the right. Drive up the hill where the services will be held. Norm's son, Sam, says that his father's burial site will be facing our city that he loved so well and that his obituary will be in tomorrow's edition of the Santa Barbara News Press.

I look forward to seeing you all there.
Darryl Widman, KF6DI

Fellow HAMs and SBARC members

It is with sadness that I pass along the news that Norm Salzman, KA6UHP, a long time member of SBARC and active ARES team member passed away at the age of 99 years.

Sam Salzman (965-8800) reported his passing to James, AJ4VP in Ventura for our Club Station Manager, Shackmaster Dave (K6HWN)  notification.
