NOTICE OF EQUIPMENT OUTAGE

The La Cumbre Peak wind speed and wind direction failed during one of the recent wind and rain storms. The system will report all other parameters except WS and WD. It appears to be a failure of one of the poly carbonate pieces that holds the 3 wind speed cups in place. One cup broke away causing severe vibration and break up of the unit. Fortunately we have a spare and will get it installed soon as the weather clears. The broken unit may be replaced under warrantee.

Other weather matters:

Diablo Peak measured a total of 17.5" inches of rain from 22 Jan thru 27 Jan. The Island Roads on Santa Cruz Island suffered major damage. The road from Prisoners to the main Ranch is totally wiped out and will have to be rebuilt from scratch.

Thanks to Ken Owen, N6KTH, who set up the 223.92 repeater remote base on Santa Cruz Island with the 146.88 Ventura repeater being operated from the National Weather Service Forecast Center at Oxnard. The ARO on duty is assigned there to pick up SEVERE weather observations. If stormy weather conditions look normal then a report is not be necessary. However, any report will be accepted but please keep in mind that they are looking for anything unusual such as water spouts, creek levels, flooding, heavy rainfall in excess of 1 inch per hour at a sustained rate, lighting, high wind gusts in excess of 30 mph, and evacuations. You'll know chaos when you see it. Radar and satellite, however refined, do not always pick up these subtleties.
