Your discussion here sums this topic up well.    Most of my repair customers fit the number #2 category, and I'm there myself.    A couple of my customers fit the #1 classification  (everything stays as original,no deviation) but they don't treat their collectible as a museum piece.    The machines do receive use and the customers will gripe about the cost of buying new first-issue record pressings or the cost of a new (good quality) cobra replacement stylus.   

I know they're out there, but I haven't run across any of the type #4  (new different-look finish on classic cabinet, replace non-functional phono mech with other music  player technology) in my dealings.
